How I got into Photography
When I was in high school, my art teacher decided to turn an unused storage room into a dark room, and I helped put it all together. I started using the dark room for my personal work before there was even a photography class available. It was the discovery process of developing the film and seeing an image appear in the developing tray that captured me.
After high school, I decided to pursue an education in photography so; I attended SUNY New Paltz where I received my BFA. I found the program there challenging; it pushed me to develop my technical skills as well as my aesthetics. I remember once my professor came up to me after class (he had noticed I had been having a tough time with an experiment) and told me he admired my tenacity (definition: persistent in maintaining, adhering to, or seeking something valued or desired). Funny he should say this since it was my liquid emulsion that would not adhere to my glass surface that had me refusing to quit.
I worked in the stock photography industry for seven years, which has had a big influence on my work and my business model. I have a passion for travel and nature photography and I have been working on a collection of these images for almost three years, which also includes images from my home base, New York City. I have also been building my business of rights-managed licensing and photographic prints. My images have appeared on Book covers, Magazines, Brochures, Ad campaigns and on articles on the internet.
One of the things I enjoy most about photography is that there are always new techniques leading to new results you can be excited about. My commitment to photography has brought me to a place where I am happy creating and working hard to grow as a photographer and seeing where it takes me next.
